Photos: First Storey Building in Nigeria, Now Aged 170 Years Old

Going down the history lane, the foundation of the first storey building in Nigeria was laid in 1842 and the house was completed in 1845 in Badagry, Lagos State.
History has it that the ancient structure was erected by Reverend Henry Townsend of the Church Missionary Society (CMS).
The structure was occupied by Samuel Ajayi Crowther, the first African C.M.S Bishop when he undertook the translation of the Holy Bible from English to Yoruba. It was also used as Vicarage for saint Thomas Anglican church.

Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari is reportedly angry at the board members of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and has summoned the management of the company.
The presidency, according to Vanguard reports, is saddened by the alleged mismanagement of funds of the commission running into billions of Naira, and has called the management of the commission for questioning on the true financial status of the agency.
The president, sources revealed, would meet the management team of the NDDC and take them up on many issues relating to the management of the resources of  the commission since the new board came on board in December 2013.

Attempting To Be Like Jesus, Man Dies After 30-Day Fast

A man, described as a firm believer in Christianity, has died 30 days after he began fasting. Authorities say he was trying to fast for 40 days and 40 nights, just like Jesus Christ.

Lecturer Collapses Over N150


A lecturer in a tertiary institution in Osun state (name withheld), was said to have fainted in a bank on Thursday, August 6, over failure of the Osun state government to pay him his expected salary.
 
The lecturer fainted after he discovered that he was paid N150 by the state government for his February salary instead of N150,000.
The lecturer, a post-graduate student at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, was expected to write an examination but lamented the money would not cater for his transport.

Post UTME Will Soon Be Scraped- JAMB Registrar

The Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof Dibu Ojerinde has predicted that Post-UTME screening exercise organized by higher institutions in Nigeria with soon stop following the introduction of the Computer-Based Test (CBT).

Ojerinde said the reason for this is that the Computer Based mode of UTME had helped to completely eradicate examination malpractice.
Post-JAMB tests for applicants was introduced my many universities and polytechnic before they are offered admission, irrespective of whether they passed the JAMB examination, which has attracted its fair share of criticism as it was described as a means of extorting money from applicants.
He said: “If the universities are sure that the parents are not assisting their children to cheat, if the standard of examination is improved, post UTME would die naturally.

“With the computer based test fully introduced by the board, the Nigerian universities would have confidence in the performance of JAMB candidates.”
The JAMB registrar said the results of CBT examination were the true reflection of what each candidate had worked for.
In a related development, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) over what it considers as exploitative moves by the board.
